Lately I’ve been on a bit of a survivalist bend. I think it’s because I’ve just started reading World War Z and now every hay fever induced cough seems to induce paranoia of an outbreak. Today I discovered Fat of the Land - Adventures of a 21st Century Forager. In this blog, author Langdon Cook talks about his experiences foraging for his own food. And let me tell you, his rations seem much more luxuriant than the average zombie slayer.
From Stinging Nettle Ravioli with Sage Butter, to Peppered Beef Medallions with Red Wine Morel Sauce, to Bourbon and Pecan Encrusted Trout - Cook traipses across the Pacific Northwest in search of the finest wild ingredients. I love this blog - it’s both practical and delicious.
If in the worst case scenario, the radioactive zombie mutants do end up coming for us, at least Cook’s musings will give them serving directions. Being smothered in ketchup would be absolutely offensive wouldn’t it? In the slightly altered but immortal words of T.S. Eliot, “This is the way the world ends, not with a bang but prosecco.”
