We’ve all seen the above video of Noah Kalina. He’s the guy who took a photo of himself everyday for 7 years and then posted the finished product to YouTube. It’s a video that’s really evolved and caught fire. According to ReadWriteWeb, this meme has just monetized itself.
DAILY MUGSHOT
New social networking site Daily Mugshot makes it easier for users to replicate Kalina’s meme through a series of email reminders and a fast upload application. The genius in this particular site is its simple viral component. It’s self-referential for users and they can embed the pics into existing social networking sites and blogs by means of embedded widgets.
If you think about all of online voyeurs (pretty much anyone producing content), you can see why this is going to be popular. But beyond the obvious sexperts and lonelygirl15’s, there are a ton of other applications.
Imagine:
- Watching a mommy blogger’s kid grow up while you read her life story;
- Being connected on a daily basis to your WorldVision sponsor child or your Kiva recipient, and;
- Cancer survivors see a fellow survivor gain strength post-chemotherapy.
I’m convinced this can be a powerful tool, and the fact that it can be incorporated into so many sites at once means it’s just going to get more interesting as the community grows. I’m excited to get started and to see what others have in store.
