Erin sent me a link to the Uniform Project. In May, 1 woman pledged to wear 1 dress for 1 year in what she calls an “exercise in sustainable fashion.” The fashion fundraising project has already raised $5,500 towards the Akanksha Foundation - an organization that brings quality one-on-one education to children in the slums of Mumbai. Says the site owner, “I was raised in India where uniforms were a mandate in most public schools…Peaking through the sea of uniforms were the idiosyncrasies of teen style and individual flare. I now want to put the same rules to test again.” If you’ve ever tried to sew something wearable in a day, you’d realize how difficult it is to avoid looking like one of the male villains from Batman. I love this experiment in creative fundraising. The best fundraisers are actually fun.
